Postal Strike To Go Ahead

Billy Hayes the Communications Workers Union leader confirmed today strike action would go ahead, planned for Thurday and Friday, bringing business to a standstill. The action due to start at midnight tonight concerns pay and conditions. The CWU have secured majority support for the action and can call a halt to work of some 120000 postal workers. The Union has criticised Lord Mandleson the Business Secretary for not getting involved in the dispute claiming the Business Secretary was working hand in hand with Royal Mail.

Meanwhile David Cameron had accused the prime minister of "lacking the courage and leadership" to intervene in the postal strike. The Ministry of Defence may charter extra aircraft to ensure that troops abroad get Christmas Post.
