If you’re due to appear at court anywhere in Merseyside, it’s important to know which courts are currently open for criminal cases.
At present, there are only three criminal courts in operation across Merseyside:

Liverpool QEII Combined Court Centre
Sefton Magistrates’ Court (Bootle)
Wirral Magistrates’ Court (Birkenhead) – currently closed for repairs until further notice

Based in St Helens, we regularly represent clients at all Merseyside courts.

Liverpool QEII Combined Court Centre

Located at Derby Square, Liverpool, this is the largest court in Merseyside and houses both Crown Court and Magistrates’ Court hearings.
Opening Hours: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Monday – Friday)

Our criminal defence solicitors appear daily at Liverpool QEII, representing clients in trials, bail applications and sentencing hearings.

Sefton Magistrates’ Court (Bootle)

Sefton Magistrates’ Court deals with cases from across Bootle, Crosby, Formby, Maghull, Southport and surrounding areas.
Opening Hours: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Monday – Friday)

We regularly represent clients at this court in both adult and youth proceedings, including first appearances and committals to the Crown Court.

Wirral Magistrates’ Court (Birkenhead)

Wirral Magistrates’ Court normally handles matters from Birkenhead, Wallasey, Heswall and the wider Wirral area.
It is currently closed for repair works, and hearings are being temporarily listed at other Merseyside courts.
